Does Manitoba Health cover Physiotherapy or Massage Therapy services?

Manitoba Health does cover some physiotherapy in private clinics for patients who have had a hip or knee replacement as of Jan 1, 2023. Massage therapy is not covered by Manitoba Health. Manitoba Health does not cover any other physiotherapy services in private clinics. Treaty benefits also don’t cover physiotherapy in private clinics. How Many Treatments Will I Need?

The number of visits you will need depends on the nature of your impairment. Your therapist can discuss this further with you after your assessment.

Do You Do Direct Billing To Insurance Companies?

We direct bill to WCB, MPI and most other private insurers.

How Long Does a Physiotherapy Treatment Take?

Your first physiotherapy session usually takes roughly one hour. Please arrive 10-15 minutes early to complete paperwork and prepare your file. Subsequent visits are usually around 45 minutes depending on the nature of your treatment.

What Should I Bring To My Appointment?

Wear comfortable clothing that allows free movement and inspection of the affected area. We can provide shorts or a gown if needed. Please bring your private health insurance card or plan numbers if you would like us to check your insurance coverage or do direct billing. If you have any other information such as x-ray reports, a doctor’s prescription or claim number please bring them with you to your appointment.

Does Beverly Physiotherapy treat workplace injuries covered by WCB?

Yes. If you are injured at work, the Worker’s Compensation Board, also known as WCB, may provide coverage for physiotherapy. Beverly Physiotherapy can begin your initial physiotherapy assessment once you have an injury claim number issued by WCB.

What do I need to start physiotherapy for a WCB claim?

To begin your physiotherapy assessment for a workplace injury, you only need your WCB injury claim number. The WCB covers the initial physiotherapy assessment and will then decide whether you are approved for further physiotherapy treatment.

Does Beverly Physiotherapy treat motor vehicle accident injuries covered by MPI?

Yes. If you were injured in a motor vehicle accident, Manitoba Public Insurance, also known as MPI, may provide coverage for physiotherapy. Beverly Physiotherapy can begin your assessment and treatment once you have an injury claim number from MPI.

Do I need special approval from MPI before starting physiotherapy?

In most cases, no special approval is required once you have your MPI injury claim number. You can contact Beverly Physiotherapy with your claim information, and the clinic can help you get started with your assessment and treatment.

Is physiotherapy covered after a knee or hip replacement in Manitoba?

You may be eligible for physiotherapy coverage after a knee or hip replacement through provincial funding. In 2023, the provincial government announced additional resources to support postoperative rehabilitation for patients with hip and knee replacements.

Who is eligible for provincial physiotherapy funding after a hip or knee replacement?

If you had a hip or knee replacement after January 1, 2023, you are likely eligible for some physiotherapy coverage at a private physiotherapy clinic under this provincial program.
