In the hustle and bustle of the modern work environment, it’s not uncommon for individuals to find themselves grappling with job-related pain and injuries. Whether it’s the result of an acute injury, repetitive strain or postural strain, the toll on physical and mental well-being can be significant. We understand the challenges that arise from workplace-related health issues, and we’re dedicated to providing tailored solutions that empower you to heal and thrive.
Job-related pain can stem from various factors, including heavy or repetitive loading of the soft-tissues, prolonged uninterrupted postures, suboptimal workspace setups or an incident such as a slip and fall. Physiotherapists recognize the diverse nature of workplace-related health issues and address each with a nuanced approach.
Effects on Physical and Mental Health
Enduring persistent pain at work not only impacts physical health but also takes a toll on mental health as well. Being in pain is frustrating and it can significantly affect a person’s performance, efficiency and overall enjoyment of work.
Many people try to ignore workplace pain and simply hope it will go away on its own. The downside to this approach, is that it can make injuries worse in severity and can prolong the duration of the injury as well as the recovery time. In the most severe cases, it can result in a person being unable to perform their work duties resulting in time off work. This can be a very stressful situation when an injury progresses to the point that it affects a person’s ability to earn a living. Simply put, the sooner you address work-related pain and injuries, the better.
How Physiotherapy Can Help
Physiotherapists are university educated and licensed health professionals who have significant training in treating a huge range of musculoskeletal, neurological and other health conditions. They are experts at assessing and treating all kinds of painful conditions as well as issues with mobility, strength, balance and function.. They are also often involved in helping individuals transition back into regular work duties, sports and other activities after injuries.
Our physiotherapists conduct thorough assessments to understand the unique aspects of each individual’s workplace-related health issues. We don’t believe in one-size-fits-all solutions, especially when it comes to workplace pain. Everyone’s job and body is different. How we treat a person with neck pain from heavy lifting at work is going to be different from how we treat an office worker who has neck pain from working at the computer all day long.
It’s also important to consider other factors when creating a physiotherapy treatment plan such as recreational activities, family and household responsibilities and medical conditions that could impact the condition or treatment. Some patients play on basketball teams, others have young children that need to be lifted and others may have had a previous injury or surgery that is affecting the problem area. All these things need to be considered in order for the physiotherapy treatment plan to be customized and effective.
Our Approach
The starting point in the physiotherapy journey is talking with the patient to find out more information about the area of complaint. We’ll ask questions to help us understand what might be causing the issue such as the location and duration of the pain as well as what activities tend to make it better or worse. We will also want to know about your workplace duties and set-up to see what might be contributing to the problem. After that, we perform a physical assessment to look at things like your mobility, strength, tender points and function. Performing a thorough assessment allows us to come up with a treatment plan that is designed to you and your specific needs and goals.
After the assessment has been completed, your physiotherapist will go over their findings with you as well as the suggested treatment plan. Components of your treatment plan may include things such as hands on therapies like massage, joint mobilizations and assisted stretches. It could include modalities to help manage pain or inflammation such as hot packs, ice packs or TENS units. Exercises like range of motion, stretches and strengthening will be given to help restore mobility and improve strength. Education and ideas will also be shared, such as how to best manage the condition or ways to modify the workspace. And if your workplace injury has resulted in you being off work, we can provide support and guidance to ease your transition back to work. Each component of your treatment plan will be designed around your specific condition, your workplace, your lifestyle and your needs and goals.
Healing is a dynamic process, and throughout your treatment program, we will continuously re-assess your response to ensure that you are getting better and achieving your goals. We will look for improvements in pain, range of motion, strength and function with daily activities and work to name a few. As you recover, we will also focus on preventing further flare ups and future injuries as well as promoting overall well-being.

Worker’s Compensation Board Coverage
The Worker’s Compensation Board (WCB) provides coverage for people who have been injured at work. Part of this coverage includes physiotherapy to help people recover from injuries and support them in the workplace. Coverage is available regardless of whether a person is off-work, working modified duties/hours or if they are working full-time/full duties but are struggling with pain and disability. Beverly Physiotherapy works seamlessly with the WCB, but is also completely independent of them as a care provider. We will communicate with you and the WCB to ensure that your claims process runs as smoothly as possible.
We understand that navigating insurance processes can be daunting. At Beverly Physiotherapy, we have a lot of experience in managing WCB claims. We handle all direct billing to the WCB and ensure that all reporting and communications are handled in a timely fashion. All you need to get started is a WCB claim number. Your physiotherapy assessment will always be fully covered by the WCB once you have your claim number. Further coverage is determined by the WCB based on a review of your assessment findings and incident reporting. We will update you of any communication we receive from the WCB regarding your claim.
